May 5, 1912 - Crowd Sees Man Knocked Down by Fire Engine

 

From Reports of City Officers of the City Of Newark NJ 1905: Engine placed in service May 25th, 1901. Combination Chemical and Hose Wagon placed in service May 20th, 1903. Engine is a second size double Amoskeag (three-horse hitch), with two-horse Champion Babcock Chemical Engine and Hose Wagon, both in good condition. Single Tank 60 gallon. Engine and Wagon equipped with rubber tires.

From 1920 Board of Commissioner's Manual: Engine placed in service May 25th, 1901. Wagon placed in service May 20th, 1903. Engine is an extra second-sized Amoskaeg, three-horse hitch. Two-horse single 60 gallon tank Champion Babcock Combination Chemical Engine and Hose Wagon. Engine and hose wagon equipped with rubber tires and both in good condition.

Fire Department Deaths & Causalities:
Engine Company No. 4 – George Denman, driver of hose cart, sustained a compound fracture of the right ankle by forward axle breaking while bringing a load of hose to hose depot December 13th, from fire in Eighth Avenue, he is still confined to the house from this accident.
