Man and a Horse
From Tom Reiss: E12 was organized at 215 Belmont Ave
(later Irvine Turner blvd) in 1894. It was the first company added to
the fully paid NFD. T5 was organized in 1898 at 213 Belmont ave. At some
point the two separate buildings were attached with an addition built
in between the buildings. Both units remained here until moving to the
new Clinton Ave firehouse in 2003. E12 was disbanded in 2011.
From Reports of City Officers of the City Of Newark NJ 1905:
Engine placed in service September 1st, 1894. Combination Chemical Engine
and Hose Wagon placed in service February 15, 1899. Engine is a third
size double La France piston (three-horse hitch), with two-horse Champion
Babcock Combination Chemical Engine and Hose Wagon, Single Tank 60 gallon,
both in good condition. Engine and Wagon equipped with rubber tires.
From 1920 Board of Commissioner's Manual: Engine placed
in service April 29th, 1905. Wagon placed in service February 15th, 1899.
Engine is an extra second-sized Metropolitan equipped with White four-wheel
tractor. La France 60 gallon tank Champion Babcock Combination Chemical
Engine and Hose wagon. Both apparatus in good condition and equipped with
rubber tires.
From 1921 Board of Commissioner's Manual: Engine placed
in service April 29th, 1905. Wagon placed in service February 15th, 1899.
