From Tom Reiss: Engine 21 was placed in service in 1906 at 721 South Orange Ave near Munn. This was the old Boro of Vailsburg City Hall prior to being annexed by Newark. E21 covered the entire Vailsburg area and in 1911 became the first company to be motorized with a 1911 Webb Model K , 600gpm combination pumper & hose wagon with a Thomas motorcar chassis.

In 1918 E21 moved to the new Vailsburg firehouse at 420 Sanford Ave at Palm St; then in 1932 moved to 1010 18th Ave; then back to Sanford Ave in 1935. E21 was permanently closed around 2007 and the 1997 pumper was re-assigned to Engine 13.
